Assitive Technology Makers Lab

Assistive technology makers lab, where the k morphs into a gear and an arrow

Where ideas take physical form. We use 3D printing technology to build innovative assistive technology products, and we open our lab to makers who share our mission. The establishment of Makers Lab was catalyzed by funding from American Women's Club and Small World.

The Makers Lab has two sides

Internal product innovation and a commercial printing service, both in service of a more accessible world.

In-house Research & Product Development

Our team uses the Makers Lab to design, prototype, and manufacture assistive technology products for blind, low vision, and other persons with disabilities.

Every product from this lab is rooted in a real need identified through our work with the disability community. We design with the community in mind from the earliest prototype to the finished product.

  • Rapid prototyping of assistive device concepts
  • Iterative design informed by user feedback from the disability community
  • Finished products available in the Accesstech store

Commercial 3D Printing Services

We open our Makers Lab to external makers who need 3D printing services. Bring your designs and we will bring them to life affordably, professionally, and with care. We encourage makers who build assistive technology with free or subsidized printing.

  • Custom prints from your STL or compatible design file
  • Free or subsidized printing for makers building assistive technology
  • Pick up at the Makers Lab
